I hate a Cottonmouth. They have no redeeming qualities.........
I love Snappy ❤️
This is the best enclosure ive seen for a snapping turtle
I love building these. Thanks for watching!
@@crunchinfo loved this build, perfectly sized for one of the worlds largest freshwater turtle species
This set up is nicer than my apartment.
Snappy loves this. One year later with no maintenance, its crystal clear. When an ecosystem is set up correctly, it just works. Our builds just like this are outdoors and require no work too maintain tge water quality. Thanks for watching.
lovely ecosystem! looks amazing
There are expletive deleted people who run over them on purpose…I understand the concern.
I’ve never had one but love them. Hubby found one when he was a cop…knew a resident might for snapper soup. Got the snapper to clamp down in his Billy club and released it in a canal…it was huge and very heavy. Need these guys around as they are very important to our ecosystems. Snappy is a handsome devil! Btw they are very smart critters! Before I became severely disabled I had a beautiful painted turtle and had planned to get a mud turtle. Hubby found him a wonderful home and well, best laid plans. If didn’t guess from my name, I’m female, lol.
He’s gorgeous…lived around them all my 73 years….current house backs on a river and they are out and about searching for love.
Russ, that turtle is a gem Do not feed goldfish.!!!
Thanks, I never do. Thanks for watching.
Cost ??
We dont sell turtles. Thanks for watching.
I know you don't sell,what's their value???
I think a 3-4" inch is generally selling for around $350.00-$450.00 US
Very good turtle, you Breed??? Let me know
No, I have never bred them yet. Maybe someday.
Is that a clean water creek? Id be careful!!!
I really dont believe any water outside of my control to be clean. I also have been to fish farms where feeder fish are propagated and would say that is also a choice with risk. Most of those fish are raised on comercialy processed food made with additives of unknown origins and contents. I always put the live fish on a clean out tank and maintain them for a few days, for whatever that is worth. I really dont like offering live food th at hasn't first been frozen and dont for all others at the refuge. Freezing first helps to eliminate parasites and fungas. This turtle insists on live. Thanks so much for watching!
Kinda miss it when you can just hold your snapper like a hamburger.
Snappy is bigger than a roast now!
Jeeze. . .mines at 20lbs, I didnt think they got THAT big. Though it makes way for alot of personality.
awesome
Thanks for watching!
Cool
Snapping turtles are extremely protected. If you see one in the wild. Leave it unlone. Unless it's in the road then you cqn help it cross, but please know how you hold them because they can take your fingers off with ease.
It looks like its smiling its so happy
That snapping turtle looks so happy
great quality i know absolutely nothing about what your talking about BUT this man makes me want to trust him with my bank info
watch your toes Rusty 😂
Love the farm life, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Just kind of in a holding pattern currently. We recieved another 1/2 inch of rain last night...
Beautiful place!
Thanks so much. I love just staying home and wandering around.
Hi How do you keep your water so clean and so red ish Brown?
I use a biological approach building my filtration systems over mechanical. I have shown how to build a simple, cheap and large system in a video ill share. The reddish look is actually a brown that the camera tends to make look red. Its Tannins in the water. Tannin in the water I consider crucial during certain times of the year. Be sure to go through my channel and watch the building a filter cheap video and some if the videos about Tannins. Thanks for watching!

These two are not big in size for 40 years
Yea, very oddly small. They are definatley 40 years old, cronicaled in photos and with the original paperwork. I believe it is due to living in a cold inviroment with no suplimental heat. They had a very short feeding seaso. They are in really good shape. They are "thick", not fat but thick in measurment from plastron to top of carapace. I have some 28 year olds we have had since hatchlings that are 5 inched longer in carapace then these two. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful pond
I love spending time at it. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so very much for doing this
I love what I do, thanks for watching!
That's a really cool outdoor tank
Thanks so much and thanks for watching! I enjoy building these outdoor habitats as much as seeing the turtles in them. Another one on process for our newest 122 pound AST. Keeping watching.
They look great and going into a great looking home
They are very healthy looking. Very good eaters too. Thanks
Awesome!
Thanks! I enjoy watching them experience the outdoors for the first time. Thanks for watching!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Thanks so much. I love what I do. I enjoy watching them experience the outdoors for the first time. Thanks for watching!
congrats man!
Its a good feeling. I enjoy watching them experience the outdoors for the first time. Thanks for watching!
They look great! Love my Alligator Snapper
Thanks so much for watching.
That pond looks amazing Rusty. Absolutely an oasis I’m sure sitting under that gazebo
Great place to spend time!
Sir have you ever counted how many alligator snapping turtles are there in the blackwater refuge now?
This was great to see. I've been trying to figure out how to go about setting up a better indoor area for my snapper. He's only 50 lbs and 15 years, but I'm hopeful to get more ideas from your channel.
That's a fairly large turtle you have. He is going to need a good ecosystem. I visited Snappy last month, its working great. Sand bottom, clear healthy water and Bill hasn't done a water change in over one year. Set up properly these systems take care of themselves. Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait to see em!
Rusty you should do a full length video when you bring the turtles out to do the wellness check. Would make for a good longer video. If you have the time
I plan on it.

Phenomenal 🎉❤
Sir, how big is Connie now? and I was wondering what is your frequencies of feeding these turtles? hatchlings vs juveniles vs adults? thanks!
Connie is 12 inch carapace, I haven't weighed her yet this season. I feed anything over 8 inches every week, somtimes a little more often in temperatures 80° and up. Anything over 100 lbs every week for the first month and eventually every week and a half to two weeks. I feed all until they are full though. Thanks for watching!
@@crunchinfo thank you sir! What about hatchlings? Do you feed them everyday or once a week just like those juveniles?
@@groy4789 Hatchlings we treat differently. We feed them smaller amounts, not nessasirly fed until full, every three days for the first year, then we start giving them larger meals and maintain 3-4 day intervals. When they are 6-8 inch we move to once a week. All of that is at 78°-82° water temps. Hatchlings will over eat. In the wild they typically dont have food arrive at their mouth every day or even constantly like I see some doing.
@@crunchinfo Got it, thank you sir!
Do they work when you defrost them.
Where do you get the mammals? Roadkill? Trap?
What a nice scape rusty. And what looks like a great property. How many acres?
We have 7 acres. Thanks! Waiting for the warm up....
Why aquarium water look like dirty red color ??
I have Tannins in the water. Its actually a light brown color but the camera gives it a red look when I shoot video. Thanks for watching!
Is that sound coming from the turtle??
It is not.
Found one when i was a kid, i was crossing a stream, stepped on a "rock" that moved lol. Had to weigh 50 plus pounds.
Relocating them?
Yes! The large Males to big for breeding were removed from the ponds and placed in quarenteen until they recieve a clean bill of health. Eventually these males will be relocated to other educational facilities within the US
what you doin...makin soup??
No soup for you! The large males were relocated to other educatinal facilities within the US.
Thanks for the idea!
There are couple brands of traps. The Gee brand works best for several reasons.
